Highland Beach is in Palm Beach County, Florida, which is in the southeast portion of the state. Located between Delray Beach and Boca Raton, Highland Beach encompasses about one square mile. As a small town, it has a population of slightly more than 4,000 people that increases to over 8,000 during winter months.

Sea Turtle Program

Highland Beach is home to a large number of sea turtles, which is one of the unique features of this beach community.

The area provides critical nesting grounds for these creatures between March and October. During this time, sea turtles come to shore and lay their eggs along the beach. Then after a few weeks of incubation, the new hatchlings come up from the sand and make their way to the sea.

Highland Beach takes their responsibility seriously for the care and protection of the sea turtles. Visitors are welcome to observe these amazing creatures, but must carefully follow the rules and regulations that have been established by the city’s legislature.

Beaches

As a premier beach community in Florida, Highland Beach has a pristine beach that is primarily visited by residents. Visitors are also welcome on the beach, which is secluded from the hustle and bustle of commercial activity.

Relaxation in a laid-back beach atmosphere is the main objective of beach goers in Highland Beach. So be prepared to enjoy some quiet time on the beach, as you also enjoy beach and water activities in tranquil solitude.

Then, when you are ready to be around more people in an exciting and vibrant beach environment, just head north on A1A to Delray Beach or south to Boca Raton.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

For a fun activity while visiting Highland Beach, take a short drive to Boca Raton and visit the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, which is owned and operated by the city.

This wonderful facility offers a unique nature experience the whole family will love. It features 20 acres of hardwood hammocks, saltwater aquariums, and gardens that are begging to be explored. You’ll also enjoy the marine and indoor aquarium feedings, and educational programs.

Dining and Lodging

Dining and lodging options in Highland Beach are very limited since this is mostly a residential area. Within the city limits, Latitudes Ocean Grill is an upscale restaurant located at Delray Sands Resort.

For many more dining and lodging options, drive north to Delray Beach. While you are there, check out Delray Beach Club, Delray Breakers on the Ocean, Wright By The Sea, and Berkshire on the Ocean.
